we've reached 1200 fans! thank you so much everybody! <3
the title for this drawing is "ARTISTIC LIBERTIES: THE MOVIE", i think. i guess this is some sort of strange hemlock alternate universe set in china, with lumi and ulla dressed in 19th century han ladies fashion. their hair was a compromise - i don't think han women generally wore their hair with fringes. i apologize to anybody who is grossed out by bound feet - i have a weird obsession with them, probably because i hate my feet a lot (messed up toes, yo). lotus shoes fascinate me.

next week's hemlock update will be brought to you by robots, because i'll be on a plane to beijing! i won't be able to update twitter, facebook, or tumblr in china (i assume) so just take for granted that there will be updates and come and check back please <3

Hemlock #1 and #2 are now available to buy online!
each issue is priced at £6 plus postage and packing. they can be bought through lulu.com at my storefront here: http://stores.lulu.com/mildtarantula lulu accepts both card and paypal

@Cannetella: thank you! one of my best friends has UK size 3 feet D: i'm so jealous. but she still has the same problem as me finding shoes that fit haha!
@Iron: i'm going with my university, so it's not all fun haha XD thank you!
@Draumur: thank you so much!
@bombsoverbordeaux: it's like what happens if you go to the other side of russia instead of the european side!
@Aica: thank you so much! i'll try my best!
@Hantou Fukkatsu: it was undoubtedly a horrible process! i'm pretty sure it's illegal now either way.
@Stitchedbullet: haha i think i see "cute" in there? or maybe pretty? i only know a couple of words and characters in chinese XD thank you so much!
@BrightLights: that's true! it's exciting :)
@Rosie: thank you so much! <3
@Mythee: haha i'm the opposite! mine are ALWAYS bent, i think they are called hammer toes. it's not such a big deal, i just think they are very ugly, and i have to be careful not to wear shoes that aren't too small.
@SunshineMoonlight: thank you so much!
@SulfurMask: haha perhaps! i have three tibetan spaniels actually, maybe he'd be one of those? THE MOST disobedient breed, i swear to you.
@siskhi: aww, thank you so much <3
@bunkun: thank you so much! haha i wasn't sure about the gradient, but i'm glad you like it :D
@Red Rabbit: i should hope not.
@polkadots: thank you so much~

Oh, they look so lovely!

I hate feet so much. I love little pointy tiny feet, though. If only bound feet weren't so painful. O.O

Gasp! I love this. 很可爱! (lolwhut, Chinese?)

I love the shoes. I remember learning about bound feet in my World History AP class. My teacher liked to show pictures in his lectures, just to get the grossed out reactions. Hahaha!

Also: HAVE FUN IN CHIIIINA~ :D Safe travels. c:

I have toes that don't bend until I do so by forcing them against the ground. Horrible blood circulation. xD;

But ahhh so pretty! <33 Bound feet and all other horribly crippling/deforming past traditional styles for women such as corsets are something I wish never existed, but I guess if they were OK with it there's nothing one can say... xD;; Except DON'T DO IT! (Too late though, they're in the past). It's like. Smoking, or something. I just want to tell them to stop. ;v; THE POOR FEET AHH

I hope your feet will be OK and that you will find nice shoes for them? D8

Bound feet are making a comeback. All they need is one celebrity to endorse the process in ELLE.

just found this comic and it is lovely...bound feet, however, is a very touchy subject, especially in rural china when many of my older relatives still remember the process quite vividly. the mutilation and systematic oppression involved horrifies me, and leads me to be unable to view it as an "art form" or as aesthetically pleasing in any way. not to insult this page in any way, just mentioning some of the historical significance of this painful and oppressive tradition.
